The Latest on Kaiyu

Mission

The ocean is the largest unmonitored surface on earth.

Buoy networks are sparse and satellite models are coarse. Between them sits the water people actually work in - the pass, the reef, the ten miles off the beach where conditions turn long before a regional forecast notices.

Kaiyu closes that gap using the boats already out there. Every vessel carrying a unit becomes a station, reporting conditions from exactly where they matter, in real time, to everyone else on the water.

World map of vessel traffic. Ships blanket the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Gulf, the Arabian Sea, the South China Sea and the approaches to Japan and Korea, with thick trans-Pacific corridors and near-empty water across the Southern Ocean.

The human race has been trying to find out what is in the ocean for a long time, but we still know more about the moon than our own deep waters. It is the ultimate frontier.
